How to Save Battery on iPod Touch

iPod Touch is a terrific mobile device that provides a complete multimedia features such as music and movie players, games, applications along with wireless access to the internet through Wi-Fi. On the other hand, all those great stuffs will definitely require a long-lasting battery. The Apple claims that the iPod’s battery is capable of delivering up to 40 hours of music playback, up to 7 hours of video playback and up to 4 hours of Wi-Fi usage on a single charge. In case you need it to last even longer, simply try the following tips on how to save battery on iPod Touch.

Turn on Auto-Brightness

To extend the battery life of an iPod Touch, you can take advantage of the built-in light sensor or the Auto-Brightness feature. Whenever this feature is switched on, the light sensor will fine-tune the brightness of the screen automatically based on the intensity of lights nearby. The screen will be dimmer and it can decrease the quantity of battery life required to power the screen. To do this, go to Settings -> Brightness & Wallpaper -> Switch on Auto-Brightness.

Auto-Lock

The Auto-Lock feature will automatically set the iPod touch to sleep mode after a certain amount of time. You can conserve battery life by configuring a shorter interval on Auto-Lock feature so the iPod will go to sleep mode sooner. When the device goes to sleep mode earlier, then there will be less power consumed for the display, wireless access and some other possible draining features. To do this, go to Settings -> General -> Auto-Lock -> Tap on your preference. It’s recommended to set the Auto-Lock to 1-2 minutes to get maximum saving.

Turn Off Equalizer

The music player on the iPod Touch has been included with the Equalizer feature. The main function of this feature is to dynamically adjust the levels of bass, treble, etc. Unfortunately, this adjustment requires extra battery power and it’s rather helpful to turn it off while you’re listening to your favorite music or songs. To do this, go to Settings -> Music -> EQ -> Tap off.

Turn Off Wi-Fi

The iPod touch will only connect to the Internet when there is a Wi-Fi hotspot available nearby. The battery is usually drained by trying to connect to Wi-Fi network continually. There are some iPod Touch users that keep Wi-Fi switched on all the times in expectations that an available hotspot will appear. As a matter of fact, this can drain your battery really fast and it’s advised to always keep the Wi-Fi turned off. To do this, go to Settings -> Wi-Fi -> Slide Wi-Fi to Off.

Turn Off Location Services

The Location Services feature can provide you with an accurate location and approximate driving directions. Unlike the iPhone, the Location Services on iPod Touch requires Wi-Fi to work instead of a built-in GPS. As discussed earlier, Wi-Fi usage can quickly drain the iPod Touch battery especially when it’s working with the Location Services feature. When you don’t really need to use the Location Services, simply turn it off by going to Settings -> Privacy -> Location Services -> Move Slider to Off.
